Meet Shyna: Finding Balance, Purpose, and Joy in Work and Motherhood

Hi, I'm Shyna! I handle customer service and take care of various ad hoc tasks at The Traveller Series online store. It's a job I truly enjoy, as it allows me to balance my professional life with my role as a mother.

I became a mum in 2013 when my son was born. Like many first-time mothers, the early days were filled with challenges. One of the biggest hurdles was getting enough rest, as babies needed to be fed every two hours, which meant sleep came in small, fragmented chunks. Luckily, I had the support of my husband and mum, who were there to help me through it all.

Another challenge I faced was my difficulty in producing enough breast milk to sustain my baby. As someone who dreamed of breastfeeding, it was heartbreaking to realise I couldn’t provide everything he needed. Over time, I came to terms with using formula milk for my second child, which made managing my time easier. This allowed me to return to work just a few months after giving birth.

Now, two of my children are in primary school, and my youngest, who has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), stays at home with me. Working from home has been a blessing, enabling me to care for my children while staying focused on my work. My youngest follows a daily schedule recommended by her physician, which has helped me structure my workday. During her playtime, I can focus on my tasks, knowing she’s well taken care of. Fortunately, my older kids are very independent and need minimal supervision, which I am incredibly grateful for.

When it comes to my social life, I’m an introvert with a small circle of true friends. We often connect through social media since we're all so busy with our own lives. Some of my friends live and work overseas, but we stay in touch by joining our friend’s live Twitch sessions, where we sing along to our favourite songs. Most of the time, though, I indulge in anime, K-drama marathons, and reading webtoons. Recently, I’ve become a huge fan of a local pop boy group called SB19. I joined their fandom, A'tin (pronounced "eighteen"), and it’s been such a joy to be part of a community that’s inspired by the group's dedication and talent.

Working with The Traveller Series team has been a true blessing. It’s allowed me to achieve the work-life balance I always dreamed of. Our team is passionate about giving our customers the best possible experience, and it brings me so much joy to know that our jewellery plays a role in their milestones and celebrations. I particularly love how many mums, like me, purchase jewellery as a meaningful gift to represent their children. It’s such a beautiful way to keep your loved ones close.

One of my goals at The Traveller Series is to ensure that every customer not only treasures their jewellery but also leaves with a memorable, positive experience. We work with a cooperative and happy vibe every day, and I’m thrilled to be part of such an amazing team. I strive to pass on this positivity to our customers so they remember both their gorgeous jewellery and the wonderful customer service that comes with it.
